Our Mission!

Big Hearts, Little Boxes

BHLB aims to paint a new outlook on charity. We are opening another channel for families and members of the society to get involved and spread their love, goodwill, friendship and care by participating, supporting and contributing in our CareBoxes Shout Out.

BHLB will constantly be on the lookout for underprivileged children with needs that we all can lend a hand to chip in. Once spotted, a Shout Out begins. Families can support and contribute to the Shout Out by preparing a shoebox (or more), filled in with items (used/new) + a return envelope with their address and stamp, transform the box into a nice little surprise Carebox and drop it a drop off point. Remember, items that might worth little to us, means a lot to others. As they say, One person's junk is another person's treasure.

In the spirit of giving and receiving, the children will be sending their thank you notes to the supporting members. Every good deed deserved a proper thank you. Let the fun begins, let's create a smile and friendship through a box!

 IMPORTANT NOTE:

Big Hearts, Little Boxes is a non profit group. We aim to instill the spirit of goodwill in the community. To demonstrate to the society that Goodwill and Charity does not require big commitment. Therefore, for the moment, BHLB prefers NO items in MONETARY form to be included in the Careboxes.

What is a CareBox Shout Out?

BHLB will be on the lookout for underprivileged children and will note down a little checklist on their current needs. You might be surprised on how simple items that we take for granted in our daily lives, can be something that is important to them. Our preloved items, simple stationeries, small toys etc. A Shout Out is a call for support from the members of society. Parents, children and everybody can participate by sending out a CareBox specially dedicated to these children, and perhaps keep a line of contact with these special children just so they know that yes, they have friends who care. No extra effort or big amount of money needed. It'll only cost you a little of your time, your creativity and the amount of money you'll spend probably be less than what you'd spend in Secret Recipe at one go.

What is a CareBox?

A simple shoebox, filled with simple items such as stationeries, books (used/new), toys (used/new), clothing items (used/new), notebooks and anything according to the current listing published for each Shout out. Supporters then decorate and personalize their Careboxes meant for each child. Each box will also include a return envelope with your address and a stamp. These boxes will then be dropped off at the designated Drop Off Point.

Why include Return Envelope?

In the spirit of giving and receiving, these special children will be sending their thank you notes to the supporting members. Every good deed deserved a proper thank you.

********************************************************************************Please take note that this Shout Out is done based on goodwill and trust. But at the same time, we cannot overlook the security of these special children. Thus, we wish to keep the line of communication between supporters and these children secured, safe and properly monitored. *********************************************************************************

Big Hearts, Little Boxes – Behind the Scene.

This informal group was created and administered by Marsuhaila Maaris a resident of Shah Alam, Malaysia, and Penny Rose Ruidavet, currently residing in Amman Jordan. Both were childhood friends, now mothers driven to make a difference.

The CareBoxes Shout Out programme was modelled after 'Smile in A Box' programme hatched by humanitarian organizations and expatriates community in Amman Jordan for local underprivileged or refugees children around the country. A few mode of operation were altered to suit the country and society.

Our main goal is to highlight the plights of special children with material needs that can easily be fulfilled by other members in the society. We wish to create an opening for the members of society from different walks of life to reach out, lend a hand and get to know each other.

We would like to paint a new outlook on the idea of Charity and Goodwill for Malaysian society in general. Charity and goodwill does not mean to hand out money and forget about it. There is more to it. We need more exposure for our young generations - for them to understand that reaching out to help others can be rewarding, fun and does not require too much efforts. We hope that the children we reach out to, will know that there are people out there who care for them. That they have a friend in us.

Together, let's make a child smile. One step at a time.
